Troubleshooting
There are not fiber trace on the screen
If the trace on the screen only has reflex crest, but hasn’t linear trace of fiber.
Please :
♦ Ensure that your connectors has appropriate connectors of OTDR.
♦ Ensure the connector of OTDR is OK.
♦ Ensure you have cleaned the fiber end and connect before test.
♦ Use VFL function to check the near section of fiber, ensure there are not heavy loss.
♦ Please change test mode and measurement
parameters, then test fiber again. Example select manual average mode and add the value of Average Times, or select longer pulse to improve the trace SNR.
There are heavy loss and reflection on fiber trace or the attenuation of fiber section is too big
Please :
♦ Gently wipe the fiber end with a lint-free swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol , ensure the fiber end cleanliness before test. ( See 1.3 Cleaning and Connecting Optical Fibers on page 29).
♦ Ensure the fiber-optic cable is adequate connected.
♦ Please select shorter pulse to get smaller dead zone, then test fiber again.
♦ Please select manual average and add average times to improve the trace SNR, then test fiber again.
The trace SNR is lower
If the trace SNR is lower, some events will be losed after analyse and measurements become inaccurate and non- repeatable.
Please:
♦ Ensure you have cleanned the fiber end befor test (See 1.3 Cleaning and Connecting Optical Fibers on page 29).
♦ Ensure the fiber-optic cable is adequate onnected.
♦ Add average times to improve trace SNR, then test fiber trace again.
The length of fiber is error
Please:
♦ Ensure you have set the correct IOR and Helix factor.
